British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa
The British Isles Family History Society of Greater
Ottawa (BIFHSGO) exists to encourage and facilitate research and its publication by
people with ancestry in the British
Isles whose ancestors migrated to North
America and settled in Canada.
"Greater Ottawa" in
the Society's name shows that the Society focus is the Ottawa River
and environs, including the cities of Ottawa, Ontario,
and Gatineau, Quebec. This large land area
was settled by migrants with roots in the British Isles,
who began arriving 200 years ago. The Society's interest includes the places of
origin of these pioneer migrants and their descendants, as well as extending to
more recent immigrants from the British Isles.
BIFHSGO is a federally registered
not-for-profit society which works in close cooperation with Library and Archives Canada,
particularly on the joint project of indexing the names of Home Children as found in
ships' passenger lists, and in the records of the Middlemore Homes
Benefits of membership include an award-winning quarterly chronicle,
Anglo-Celtic Roots, ten monthly meetings held at Library and Archives Canada,
and an annual Conference held in September.
