Case (legal term)

In general, a collection of facts constituting a controversial question of law between two parties, sufficient to be heard by a proper court of justice in a particular location (town, county, etc.). Also, in early colonial law, a shorthand label for Trespass On The Case, applied to cases such as: “promised sum not delivered”; “paid service not performed”; “paid merchandise not delivered”, etc.
