Maine Genealogist, The

This journal of The Maine Genealogical Society (MGS) is a quarterly publication that has completed their twenty-sixth volume with the November 2004 issue. Edited by Joseph C. Anderson II, CG, FASG, the journal is published by Picton Press, P.O. Box 250, Rockport, ME 04856-0250, from whom back issues may be ordered.

The MGS sponsoring non-profit society was founded in 1976 with purposes to collect, exchange, preserve, and publish genealogical records, related documents, and information; and to promote and encourage interest and scholarship in genealogy and family history of the State of Maine. The Maine Genealogist journal is a benefit of MGS membership for an annual fee of $20.00 (U.S. residents) plus $5.00 for first-class mailing of publications --- which also includes a quarterly MGS Newsletter. Membership requests should be mailed to MGS, P.O. Box 221, Farmington, ME 04938.

The Maine Genealogical Society appears to lead the nation among regional societies in issuing special publications of high genealogical quality, numbering forty-five through the 2004 calendar year. Foremost among these is perhaps the multi-volume series Maine Families in 1790, now numbering nine volumes in print.
