Maryland, Montgomery County Historical Society

Located at 111 W. Montgomery Avenue, Rocville, Md., the Montgomery County Historical Society is an umbrella organization for the Genealogy Club of Montgomery County.  The society's "campus" has an administrative headquarters at 111, the "curators/collections" house at 113 W. Montgomery, the Beall Dawson House museum at 103 W. Montgomery Ave., the Stonestreet Medical Museum, on the property, for civil war medicine, and the research library, which holds over 4000 books, 1001 family genealogy files, many other vertical files, a manuscript archives that includes the Montgomery Mutual Insurance papers dating from 1855; original and microfilmed, Montgomery County newspapers, obituary clippings, cemetery records files, many early non-published court record abstracts, photocopies of county tax lists from 1783 through 1842 and marriage licenses, from 1798-1898.  The genealogy club holds regular monthly meetings at the Senior Center in Rockville, Maryland, which are free and open to the public.   For more information, on current activities, the society maintains a website  located at www.montgomeryhistory.org
