NARA is an abbreviation for the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C. and with regional libraries around the country.
Genealogical Resources at the National Archives
NARA does not have family trees or documents showing lineage of ancestors or descendants. NARA does have many types of records available for research, and ideas for how to start. Read about the records you may search online, about the many more records available to you in our facilities, and then visit NARA or order copies of records or microfilm rolls that may contain information about your ancestors.
Don't overlook the opportunity to order military records on-line. The waiting period to receive the records is much shorter.
